Stroke Prevention
See Your Doctor For Routine Medical Check-ups. Determine if you have risk factors and work together to develop a treatment plan to manage and/or prevent having a stroke.
Maintain a Healthy Weight. Check with your doctor to determine your ideal weight and develop a plan for reaching this goal.
Don't Smoke. If you quit now, in five years you will have the same stroke risk as someone who never smoked.
Eat a Healthy Diet. Reduce your salt intake and eat foods lower in saturated fat by substituting butter, lard, and hard animal fats with olive, safflower or cannola oil.
Exercise. Engage in moderate exercise --such as walking 30 minutes a day, 3 times each week.
