A Checklist for Your Health: Setting Goals
You can make lifestyle changes! This simple checklist will help.
- Begin by making a commitment to change for yourself, and not for someone else
- Set realistic goals
- Break large, long-term goals into smaller, short-term goals
- Focus on the behavior you want to change instead of on the outcome of your goal (such as weight loss)
- Put your plan in writing and post it where it can serve as frequent reminder
- Ask for help from others and be specific in your request
- Keep a written log of your progress
- Reward yourself when you reach an identified goal
- Remember, change takes time -- be patient with yourself
